Dear Hatcher,

"No serious teacher goes to Saudi."

So, this is another case of a poster making another sweeping generalization based on his/her own limited experience.

In my less limited experience (I don't think you stayed there as long as I), I saw serious and not serious teachers.

It isn't an excuse, but the time span for major cultural change between those two times isn't all that big. It has only been a couple generations and for the majority of Saudis who have likely never left the country, perhaps our expectations are too high...

Someone new to Saudi PM'd me and asked about the best jobs in Saudi.

Frankly, the better jobs pretty much go to teachers with top qualifications (e.g., relevant MA and years of verified TEFL experience) with recruiting generally done each March at TESOL Arabia's job fair.

That's the best response to that question.

Is there information or a site with information about the TESOL job fair?

The Saudi driver hasn't changed either. Cars are treated like racing camels. If you bump into another one, no big deal.
