I think we're going off the Chinese too.
The Thais are putting a brave face on it, but I wonder how long they will persevere with visa-free entry for Chinese?

In the end I think it comes down to competition for limited jobs and many of the foreign teachers will be replaced with the bi-lingual Chinese returning from their studies abroad - up to but not including the TOEFL & IELTS trainers and university professors. I predict about half of us laowai teachers will be replaced within the next three years. What do you think?

I wonder if these new Chinese teachers will be any better resourced that FTs typically are?
'Just go in to class and talk to them and BTW we want a final mark based on 60 percent class work and 40 percent final assessment'.
Ain't gonna hack it IMHO. Chinese don't have any novelty value for a start.

My friend, I saw him taken away with my own two eyes. You are welcome to email him and get the whole story right from the horse's mouth. According to the girlfriend, the police took his smart phone and got his text messages and calendar. He had been tutoring other Chinese for over a year. It just caught up with him and he thought he might win some leniency if he just told the truth and apologized. They stung the guy and God know who else is answering those ads that look pretty innocent to most people. This just goes to show that they have finally gotten serious about doing their jobs.

I believe ya. Seen it with my own eyes.
Take the risk and do it anyway?
Nope. Not me.....16 hrs are enough, plus afternoons playing pingpong - free English class for competitors, and weekends playing badminton followed by evenings of food and drink courtesy of competitors.......

.....put it this way - no-one, working in China, is in it for the money. Seriously.
Plus, anyone risking a great job teaching amazing, respectful students, for a couple of hundred yuan a week is just STUPID.
It''s illegal. You will be reported and deported - p%%% off one student or one parent and the next day the PSB will be knocking on your door.
Just say 'no'.

I'm with you guys. The money is just not good enough to risk my freedom. I too know three teachers that were arrested and deported in 2014. Two did not have Z visas, and the poor girl had a fake diploma from Fordham University that did not check out. It looked damn good to me but I guess they check with the registrar's office these days.
