I was wondering if International TEFL and TESOL Training (ITTT) a good and reputable enough TEFL training program to get a certification to teach English abroad? Is such certificate accepted in other countries for jobs? Is it really backed by Fort Hayes State University? Does it have to be backed by a university for jobs overseas? And was anybody here successful with this certification? I'm just wondering before I sign up for the course. Thanks!

HE

P.S. The link to the program that I mentioned above is below this message. Thanks again. And BTW, I'm new to this forum.

It will be accepted in some countries but not others, it's not an internationally 'known' qualification however unlike CELTA, Trinty TESOL and SIT which would all open more doors. The online course will not be accepted in some countries. There's a red flag in that they say applications from under 18's will be considered and there's no mention of any academic entry standards.

Your best bet would be to stick with the four week face to face class rather than go the online route as they note that:

Quote:
Our courses include 120 hours of training and 6 to 10 hours of teaching practice with real students of English (not your fellow trainees like some other course providers).

This appears to be the only course they offer that would be considered CELTA "equivalent" and, short of taking the more pricey CELTA, SIT TESOL, or Trinity (which, frankly, are very good investments), would open the most doors for you.

Ask them who you can contact at Fort Hays State to verify their claim that the course is backed by them. If they can't tell you, or they give you the run-around, or the folks at Fort Hays have no idea who this outfit is, that should be a red flag for you.

happyinshangqiu, I was planning to take the 120 course that costs around $240. I chose it because it an inexpensive program, I already have experience teaching English abroad, and am even a teacher here in the USA and have an actual education/teaching degree. But, just not the TEFL certificate or anything in TEFL or TESOL.

What countries are you interested in? Some tend to have very specific TEFL requirements.

You might as well give your 240 bucks to me or throw it down the toilet and save your precious time as well.

Any TEFL certificate without a teaching component is next to useless, that is why it is so cheap.

If you are going to spend money on doing a certificate, make sure it has a practicum - CELTA, Trinity are the most recognised, like American Express - recognised everywhere you go. If you cannot afford it for now, just wait until you can.

For that price, the course is probably not even facilitated by a live instructor but, rather, just an online correspondence course. Your $240 would be better spent on teaching resource books from Amazon.com: read, study, and put into practice.
