Hi Everyone,

I have an interview with Effat University in a couple of days. I have searched around for information about it and only found some old posts. So thought I would try here, does anyone know anything about the situation there? And what salary and package do they usually offer? All replies are appreciated.

Although I'm one of the posters who has mentioned Effat (and Dar Al Hekma) a half dozen times within this forum, I can't offer you any info about salaries and benefits for Effat teachers. However, it's a reputable private women's' university, so there's no reason to suspect the salary and benefits would be chintzy, even for you as a non-native speaker. Besides, they're likely to calculate your salary based on your verified teaching experience.

Anyway, at last year's TESOL Arabia conference, I met one person---a Saudi woman---who taught English there. She was quite articulate and had been teaching at Effat for several years and seemed to like it.

Good luck on your interview.

A friend of mine taught there a few years back and liked the students and considered it one of the better positions for women in KSA. But haven't had any updated info since then.

Just to correct Nomad, there is no such thing as a reputable uni in the KSA. Some may call it teaching but it is pretentious.

A statement with zero basis except from your own prejudices.

Cleopatra, who used to post prolifically here, worked at both Effat and Dar Al Hekma.

I don't believe that she ever went to Dar Al Hekma although she was considering it, not that it matters at this point.

Thanks for the replies. It seems like a decent university from the little information I have found about it. So, lets hope for the best Smile

I hope you won't have any issues getting an employment visa, regardless of which Saudi university you end up working for. According to various news sources, the Saudi government stopped issuing business visit visas to Swedish citizens due to the ongoing tiff between Sweden and KSA. There was no mention of employment/work visas, but I suspect they're either put on hold or the process for obtaining one will take longer.
