Does anyone know anything about this prep school? Maybe the best salary in China for non-cert'd teachers...

I know something about this school. I know that it was raided by police and immigration because the school lacked the authority to hire foreign experts. I know that said foreign teachers were explicitly offered Z-visas and health insurance in their contracts but never received either one. I know that the school has laid off foreign and chinese staff due to budget cuts and mismanagement. I know the school currently has less than 40 students total, some of whom actually pay fees. And I know that one of the foreign teachers, while waiting for health insurance, was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor, and the school refused to pay any of his resulting expenses.

Stay the hell away from SHENZHEN ACADEMY of INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION.

The above poster's statement referring to their management's greed is entirely true.

DO NOT TRUST ANY MANAGER WITH BONA/SHENZHEN ACADEMY OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION.

When I worked there, they always screwed things up by not knowing how to run a school. Then, at midnight, they would either beg for or threaten midnight favors. Sadly, those that wanted to help never were treated with respect. It would have paid off simply to refuse people who beg to help you.

Each of the managers I knew, even the ones that seem nice, ended up being liars and cheaters. When they needed a favor, it was a personal favor to them. When it came time to ask for it back, they pretended the school or personally owed nothing.

The school is at bigger risk. The school promised they could get their students into Top 100 US News and World report schools, but then could not keep their promise. As a result, they were interested in inflating grades, etc.

Because I saw many illegal things happening, they could be reported to US schools that took their students. That would make sure that BONA's reputation would be so terrible among US colleges that there would be no point to business, because a transcript from them is worth nothing.

I strongly recommend anyone not to work for them, as these people are liars, cheaters, and the business is failing. If they can not even pay medical insurance bills for a teacher with cancer, it says something about wanting to grow with the firm.

The latest news about Shenzhen Academy of International Education is not good.

Several teachers spent time in Chinese jail because of management's poor practices.

Management refused to get people real visas. When the teachers were caught, they were put in jail.

Watch out for this management. It is clear they only care about themselves and making money the quick and easy way.

^^^YIKES! is right, but let's be fair and balanced. Management is responsible to help teachers get the work visa. If those teachers never insisted on getting one, and never left once it became clear they weren't getting one, then they're equally at fault for being jailed. Maybe more-so since having a work visa in hand before beginning work is a pretty well-established practice among educated job applicants.
