LMAO.
I'll think of that tonight when I'm teaching 7-9 p.m. with no paid prep hours. |

Thanks veiledsentiments,
Even if it is a little too late.
...
... when a lease ends a person generally has to sign another fixed term lease or hole up in hotels. |
I figured that someone else would mention that fact which is posted at least once a week because these recruiters tend to lie about it constantly.
BTW in the US, it is very common for a lease to go month-to-month after the first year, and with those that don't, it is usual that they will extend for a month or more. Also any city on an interstate highway will have lower priced hotels... and while not luxurious, they are clean and often have a small fridge and microwave, TV with cable, and decent wifi. Depending on proximity to large city centers, it can be $35-50 a night (and often have weekly and monthly rates). We only tend to know options in our own countries and may not know where a poster is.
Sorry these options aren't available to you. As so often happens, it is too bad that you didn't ask these questions here before you turned down the other position and accepted this one.
I have to agree with some other posters that you may not be the right person for Saudi. If you think that this is frustrating and upsetting... and abusive (and I agree that it is), I can assure that it can get much worse AFTER you arrive. It is a place that requires huge amounts of patience and an ability to laugh at the stupidity that often surrounds you. If you find the posters here unhelpful or snarky, they are typical of the teachers that you will be working with... but there will be a few that are much worse... and some of those will be more than borderline psychotic. Many odd characters wash up on the shores of the Gulf.
Anyway... good luck!

| Some people cannot hack it in Saudi. Predicting who will make it can be difficult. I can say this - there is a "steep learning curve" after arrival. |

My highly relevant and hard worked for degree's do require more respect, as do I as a person. Yeah, I think that's what makes me so mad. I feel they deceived me by stating they where going to bring me over, when actually they just wanted to capture a teacher.

In England, that's even more expensive than the States:
£99/night = 134.25 Euro/night = $184 CAD/night = $148 USD/night
x30 =
£2970 / 4027 Euro / 5520 CAD / 4440 USD.
Nomad Soul, obviously math and common sense were not included in your superior education, but self-righteousness and arrogance were.
I don't have a beggar's mind, and don't consider it a privilege to teach for anyone. |
Hmm... Despite exchanging several PMs with you over the past month or so, I'm now self-righteous, arrogant, and lacking common sense. Regardless, labeling me doesn't negate the fact that you have to take responsibility for your situation, as harsh as that sounds. The realities of getting a job in Saudi Arabia as well as working/living in KSA's restrictive culture have been discussed to death in this forum, yet some job seekers (especially those applying to contracting companies) tend to ignore this information.
Anyway, rather than staying angry and jumping on me and others for our blunt comments, focus on what you need to do next. And frankly, it's still not clear why you say you need some place to stay for a month when your lease runs out at the end of April. Unless you're using a different calendar than the rest of us, the day after April 30 is May 1, which is when that company plans for you to leave the UK. |

Thanks veiledsentiments,
I haven't lived in the US since 2003, but I know exactly what type of motels you're talking about. If I was in the States, I could probably just crash at a friends house for a while. Even my mother would probably help out. Here in England, I know no one, and it's ridiculously expensive.
Call me sensitive, but sometimes I get the feeling their very happy to take and not give around these parts.
Yeah, I don't know what's going to happen in the near future, but I think I'm just going to spam these guys, and forget I ever met them.
Thanks for writing. |

OK, OK Nomad. I haven't read what you've said, but I feel genuinely bad for freaking out on you. I'm sorry.
Hope all is good with you. |

Regardless of how amazing your credentials are viewed in China, you really need to understand that the Middle East is a different market. From your PM I received, you still don't seem to understand this. Good luck to you, I'm out. |

Dear scot47,
Why do I get the idea that you were born old and tired?

| Old and tired ? Yes, but not wise. The Wisdom came from sitting at the feet of great teachers like johnslat ! |
