I have an interview with them coming up, and I'm curious if anyone can help me know what to expect and maybe a little about what they're looking for. A search turned up much about the school (sounds nice) but nothing on the interview.

I've done my share of TEFL interviews and know the usual questions, but understand that what's usually and what's looked for and what's counted against you may play different in Saudi.

Any help would be appreciated.

It depends which part of KFUPM you are being interviewed for. The prep year program is a foundation English course, so the questions will mostly be about that. The ELD is focused on EAP, so the teaching type questions may be different.

For both, you'll also have some "what would you do if...?" type questions to check your understanding of the local setting.

Either way, I wouldn't worry. They're a very good bunch of people at KFUPM and very down to earth.

Do let us know if the PYP director shows up "late" and does a good cop/bad cop routine when questioning you vis a vis the recruitment coordinator. That was really enjoyable to take time off of work to deal with when I interviewed and gave me such a great impression of their program.

Hmm...

Sounds like two very different experiences. Right now I'm just hoping there is an interview at all. I asked if we could hold it a day later than they first asked and haven't heard back.

It is easier now with Skype etcetera. In the bad old days you had to physically appear in front of someone - often at a TESOL Conference.

I went through a horrible Skype interview with them last year. Al-humdulilah! (lucky me) it went so god-awful - as I wound up with a much better position.

They weren't late, but certainly played good cop / bad cop + the bad cop clearly held disdain towards Americans...

They spoke over me (when I was answering) therefore, cluttering the Skype line.
Both, generally seemed impatient and when they asked me WHY I hadn't gotten my MA, I started to explain that I didn't want to break my years of experience, they both actually scoffed at me.

Also, wouldn't answer ANY of my pertinent / basic questions at the end.

Total balzacs in my book.

I just remembered, the above was a full two years ago.

Probably a different situation now.

I interviewed with them last year and got the same treatment, so I think the same two people are still there. I'll try applying some day in the future when they leave.
