It may well be an okay place to work, but the name "institute" suggests to me that it is NOT a university (not even a private university) but a kind of technical college or trade school. The students' level is likely to be LOW. I got a job in the Henan province and I asked to be put in contact with a WESTERN TEACHER working in the same school to find out what it was like. He gave me a detailed description, including the problems, but I decided that it was worth trying and I don't regret my decision to go to that school. For your own peace of mind, you need to get detailed information from a western person working in the school you will be working in. IF they try to beat about the bush, and don't let you get in contact with the other western teachers before you sign up just move on. It's not worth the hassle of signing a contract with a dodgy, exploitative school. Not only will you be miserable but you will make other people miserable too. Oh, and they will blame YOU! Better to find out it advance if the school is a reasonable one. |

I second what asiannationmc asserts. The naming conventions in China are not congruent to the west. That said, JRJohn is correct to request contact with an FT to address expectations. |

The Nanchang Institute of Technology is a real university. I have friends who graduated from there and their students' level is not low. If you want info, you can PM me. |
