|
|
I'm thinking that when it comes time to leave my current teaching position, this might be a useful certifcation, especially as I may end up in the developing world (as the spouse wants to work for an NGO).
I have 25yrs exp + CELTA + MA.
Who offers such programs for TEFL apart from Council CELTA?
Any leads appreciated.
Thank you. |

Frankly, your MEd TESOL + extensive experience are more than enough. In fact, lots of teacher trainers don't have any special trainer credentials, myself included.
Take a look at "Transitioning from EFL teacher to teacher trainer" (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=108596). I just "bumped" it. |

I understand your point. However, there don't seem to be any similar teacher-trainer programs in the US, yet there are many Americans working as trainers throughout the world. Some have become trainers via their experience as an ELF (English Language Fellow).
Since the two teacher trainer courses you're looking at are UK-based, you might also post on the UK forum to see if anyone has taken either course, their opinion about the training, and/or what the outcome has been in terms of actually securing a teacher trainer position. |

You have the standard quals for a university-level teacher trainer here in Canada (assuming that is a related MA), are you sure you really need to fork out more? I can't imagine that most non-anglophone developing countries would demand more than the big five. |

US/UK/Canada/Australia/NZ (I think:-) - though leaving out South Africa feels wrong.
Santi is correct - if your MA is directly related, there isn't much in terms of formal qualifications beyond that. DELTA is useful for teacher trainers, and of course there are conferences, workshops, and etc. that boost your CV. |

I know, I know. It seems to depend on the country, if it's a big five or six. |

And everyone forgets about Ireland, which is probably even more wrong. |

Nor the Cayman Islands, the official English-speaking offshore headquarters of many prestigious and highly coveted "internashionally ackredited" online TEPHL certificate programs. |

I left out Ireland because the 'big' 5 was stipulated. Ditto Malta |
