Hi, does anyone know if its possible to get a Z visa from a third country or does it have to be from your home country or HK?
Thanks |
I have mentioned this a few times before. I am an American, but applied for and got a Z visa in Indonesia, as well as Tunisia, on separate occasions, both since 2012. So apparently it is quite possible. |
I should add that in both cases I had some sort of proper residence/working visa, I was not a mere tourist.
In Indonesia, the Jakarta Embassy of China is familiar with people like me who wish to work in China. So it was just a matter of showing the proper paper work.
In Tunisia as well, but an American ESL teacher was the odd man out among locals seeking to go to China (mostly businessmen). So the Tunisian lady had to call for a Chinese lady, an actual embassy staffer. This lady saw that I had my invitation letter form a reputable education institution, working residence in Tunisia, and had already had my criminal record, health record and Z visa approval in my packet, and so permitted my entrance into China. |

| I lived in La Marsa, a suburb of Tunis for awhile, then in Monastir, where Habib Bourgiba lived. I haven't been back since Ben Ali was ousted. My last trip back was a short visit, and it was disturbing to experience the change in attitudes toward me. I think it was 2008 or so. I was very happy to get out of there. |

I was there just last year. My face is my fortune, and I look exactly like a Tunisian.
Students signing up would catch a glimpse of me coming in for work and feel they had been ripped off. Surely, that American was just a Tunisian who lived in America for a year... (?)
Lost drivers would ask me directions on the street. All I knew to say was, "Maaf, Je parle anglais." (I love how even short sentences are half-Arabic, half French - matching my heritage exactly)
After two and a half decades in eastern Asia, I loved blending in, and looking like no one in particular. |

You fit in in China? Perhaps in Macau you could be mistaken for Portuguese. I've seen that happen. Half-french, half Arabic? You'd fit in with most of North Africa, I think. That and Sicily.
The last time i was there was when Nicholas Berg and others met their demise. Al Jazeera televised it. I had to stay in the walled courtyard with a hat and sunglasses on. I'm 6'1", so I could be seen over the ubiquitous walls.
Did you get your paperwork taken care of by Tunisian authorities or by the American Consulate in Tunis. I've had recent business with both for different things. |

How could I fit into China? I meant I fit in in Tunisia. I mailed my paperwork to Beijing first-class, insured. They sent it back by FedEx or something, then I took it to the Chinese embassy in Tunis. |

Water Rat:
I sent this to you as a PM. How did you turn it into a public post on the forum? |

The original message has been edited. The first time that I asked you (and the "moderators") my query was removed along with another response on another thread. Must be some strange glitch. |

I also wrote to you earlier, and my post was removed. It was much like this one but I also said that I am no moderator. You can accuse me of whatever it is you are accusing me of, but all I can surmise is you mistakenly posted here when you meant to send me a PM. (I never received one) If someone is messing with your posts, and you're right, it looks as if they are if we have both had posts omitted from this thread and your PMs are showing up in public places. I know nothing about what other post of yours might be missing from some other thread. You ought to report all this. I have said all I have to say right here. |

| I am not accusing anyone of anything. I am making statements of fact and ascribing it to a glitch in the system. You'd have to have powers of a moderator to do what has happened. Surely, you have no such powers. Moderators certainly don't have a presence in the forum except as faceless enforcers, right? That's why I ascribe it to a glitch. |
