Hi!
I am looking to move to Spain in late August/early September and want to do my certification in the Andalusian region. My top pick as of right now is Sevilla, and I believe that is where there is the most language schools available. I am just wondering if anyone on here has gotten their certification through any of the institutions down there and which is the best. After reading just about every post on here I could find about TEFL vs CELTA, I am still undecided, so I figure I will just choose the best school to learn.
My long term goal is to teach in South America, then move onto areas in China and Southeast Asia.
Can anyone help me narrow it down!? It is getting overwhelming trying to sort through what is worthwhile or not

| Why not complete your TEFL training in South America if that's your main target region? Besides, if you expect to also teach in Spain, that won't happen unless you hold a passport from an EU country. (You mentioned on another thread that you have an associate's degree, so I assume you're either American or Canadian.) |

TEFL is "Teaching English as a Foreign Language", ie the profession.
CELTA is (despite the acronym) "Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages", ie a qualification.
You really want a proper qualification (CELTA) to enter the profession (TEFL); without it (or Trinity, an equivalent) a lot of schools will not consider you for any vacancies. They (understandably) don't want to employ someone with no proper, recognised qualifications.
I agree with the other posters: take CELTA in the country or region where you want to be. It's way easier to start make contacts, etc. |
