I taught for three years at a language institute in Bangkok a decade ago, and I have visited the country several times since then. I have a number of years experience as academic director in the Middle East, but I'd like to return to Thailand to work if the pay is at least $2000 per month and the school is professional.
My prior experience is with adult students and I prefer language schools because the typical student is more motivated than those at other venues e.g., universities and military institutes. Another problem with universities I have taught at is the large class sizes.
I have looked at jobs on ajarn.com and the typical ones there pay terrible wages. A friend recently told me about teachingthailand.com, but it doesn't seem much better.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you for your thoughtful responses.

If you want something above entry level is it all about your network and connections.

It IS about who you know and who knows you.

It is NOT about your credentials and experience.

Fly in, start work and re-prove yourself to advance up the ladder.
Build your network and connections.

Language academies are about your performance and income generation for the employer.

IF you are as good as you think you are you should reach your objective within a year.

You are NOT going to find "plum" jobs posted on EFL forums and job sites.
Thailand is still a "boots on the ground" employment situation.
