As I'm sure you know, colleges have told me not to list any experience that cannot be documented.

I can prove six or seven years of experience of my 9 actual years total. The last few are proving difficult. Should I keep trying? Will showing 9 years of employment markedly raise my salary above showing 7 years?

In other words, should I give up trying to reach the last of my old employers who likely don't even remember me, or just give up and go with what I have.

Ask your HR contact in KSA how much more the difference would be. However, if your previous employers are no longer around, have no clue who you are, or are reluctant to produce an employment verification letter, then what's the point? Either provide the new employer with what you already have or keep spinning your wheels.

So POE, will it? For KAU in Jeddah, do you know if it will? Let's say less than 10 years proved, and more than 10 years proved.
Is there any limit to the year-based salary calculation?
Please, advise if you could.

You will need to ask the employer because each employer can make their own rules in this area. I have had employers that only counted 6 years... others up to 10 years... one even higher than 10.

If you're unsure, just submit verification letters/certificates for all of your teaching experience. It's a no-brainer.

Yes, thank you.
My problem is I can easily prove 10 years. I could prove more than 10, but with substantial to great difficulty. Yet if I know it makes sense salary-wise, I would consider making an effort.
However, if the ceiling for newly appointed at KAU is 10+ years of proved experience, i.e. there is no dif in the initial salary bewteen 10, 12 or 17 years, as the ceiling is reached at years 10, then I wouldn't need to make the extra effort.
Please, help.

This is a question for your HR contact person at KAU. Email him.

Sorry Balqis I'm afraid I can't help you. In fact, the school I've been dealing with I haven't heard from in 3 weeks, despite sending them a few emails. I'm trying to encourage myself that this is just Saudi being Saudi, but I am slightly nervous now.

POE, thank you. I will ask HR via email.
Let us hope they will reply to your mail eventually. Such delays as 3 weeks in KSA are not unusual; they are a norm. Even with emails unanswered by your employer-to-be, it doesn't mean anything. Saudis are reputed for it.

Keep in mind this is peak hiring season. HR departments are super busy during this time rather than "Saudis being slow."

Ok that's nice to hear. It's just they gave me good signs and then stopped replying to me, so I naturally got worried. This is one of the better schools that people say has there ducks in a row, so I wasn't sure how much this would apply.

I will maintain faith. Thanks, NS.

The ceiling at KAU/ELI is 5 years of tertiary, which equals to 10 years of secondary, work experience.
More years make no difference to your salary calculation [ I managed to answer my own and POE's question eventually at the source].
