Dear scot47,

"I might have become an Ambassador !"

Indeed - any reader of your posts would immediately grasp that diplomacy is your forte. Very Happy

Regards,
John

I knew teachers who had been there for 20 years - with degrees in Modern Foreign Languages - who could not read the numerals on a car number plate.

Dear scot47,

And that was especially the case after the car had run them over. Very Happy

That's likely because they probably were unaware that in Arabic you read the numerals from left to right as we do in English, even though text script is read and written from right to left.

For real Arabic numbers, see here -

I had to know the numbers when living in Egypt and actually used the car plates to practice them as I sat in taxis on the way to and from work.

The fact that 0 in Arabic is 5... and 7 in Arabic is 6... was the biggest problem for me.

And then there is that odd fact that we use the original Arabic numerals, whereas in Arabic, they use the Indian numerals.

Is it safe to assume that Johnslat has not quite grasped the concept of "Irony". Does he have the same form of Asperger's as Sheldon Cooper ? (My hero)

I had not really meant that I should have been a diplomat. The role of Lord High Executioner would be more my cup of tea.

May the Fourth Be With you all !

It's easy to confuse numbers 7 and 8 but I remember it but 7 looking like the letter V and seven has a V in it.

Dear scot47,

My sincere apologies - I hadn't realized that an alternate title for the Lord High Executioner was Ambassador.

"I might have become an Ambassador !"

John

Surely "Witch Finder General" would be a more appropriate occupation given Scot47's Calvinist background.

If that is a secure offer of employment, I accept. If I may quibble I am more of a Zwinglian than a Calvinist. With Arminian tendencies.

For the benefit of the bewildered, Scot47 is a dangerous liberal. Wink

Dear grahamb,

"dangerous liberal" - an redundancy, surely. Very Happy
