I don't know either school, but I might set you on a boat as regards Guiyang.
Why did you choose this location?
It is the capital of one of the poorer provinces of China. In contrast with rural Guizhou, the capital is developing at breakneck speed. But don't expect a Venice or Paris - it largely is an eyesore, construction sites and ramshackle suburbs.
Nevertheless, I heard of some westerners living there, and I guess if the school lives up to its contractual requirements you can have a good time there. The climate is mild, never too hot due to the locale's altitude of over 1000 meters above sealevel, but it is in a valley which traps the enormous air-borne pollution.
A bonus might be the relative proximity to Yunnan and Guangxi provinces; Kunming is just ten train hours away, and Guilin is not much farther away. |

I have known several teachers who taught in Guiyang, all experiences quite favorable. Over the past several years, I have visited Guiyang a couple of times, the last in 2001. Wonderful people. Even then, a lot of construction was underway, as Roger indicated. Much of the province sits on a plateau, accounting for the mild weather. The geography may also account for the fact the Japanese never made it as far as Guiyang. One warning climatewise: Guiyang suffers a paucity of sunlight. I mean, the sun shines on relatively few days. The name Guiyang () could be translated as "precious sun". |
