How many cases of people being hospitalized for street food do you know of? My mom and brother got sick in hawaii. I got sick in Thailand off some bad seafood. None of us went to the hospital. I've eaten street food in China 100's of times and never gotten sick. It's just trying to make Beijing look more western.

One of my students wrote a paper comparing different types of eateries. She said people ate street food for the taste and went to restaurants for the environment. I wholeheartedly agree with her.

These people are usually cooking for their neighbors and community. If people get sick they're out of a job.

I'm sorry (not actually), but are you suggesting that food poisoning, be it from "street food" or not is not a serious problem? That is never or even often requires hospitalization. Aren't you aware that 93+% of diarrhea is a food-borne illness requiring hospitalization in more than 1/3 of cases?

Do you have multi-personality disorder? "I got sick" and "None of us went to [the] hospital." There is a disparity there, see it?

It bugs me when one person who didn't get sick thus determines that all people never get sick. Not an epidemiologist, are you? Go study the facts.

Street food = low quality ingredients, recycled cooking oil, dirty environment etc.

Not sure if ZB's numbers are correct, but I wouldn't be surprised. People have different stomachs and some people are lucky that they rarely get sick from food. They are fortunate, but in the minority.

And don't get me started on the fake beers that you swig down with your street food. The next day isn't nice.
