|
|
OK folks I need your pearls of wisdom.
I am moving to Italy (with an EU passport). I'm a qualified experienced business and general english teacher(no kids or uni students)
So the question is: where do I go?
It has to be near the beach and have at least several million population.
Naples and Trieste have been suggested to me.
What's the teaching situation in Venice?
Thanks in advance |

Working in language schools in Italy means working with YL most of the time so don't be surprised if you go to an interview and they expect you to teach 20 hours of YL and 3 of adults.
In a bigger city you'll easily be able to get private students if you advertise yourself well.
I would say go bigger than Venice.
good luck! |

Neither Trieste nor Venice has a population over a million. Venice is around 60,000, and even including the larger metropolitan area on the mainland still has only a few hundred thousand. Trieste is not much more than 200,000. So neither meet your requirements.

What does "near the beach" mean to you? As far as I know Rome and Naples are the only two cities on or very near the coast with a population over a million. Possibly Genoa. The other two large cities are not near the coast.

Thanks folks for your replies. I'm actually now resident in Naples and looking for work and accommodation. Enjoying Naples, reminds me of South America. |

I've had some interviews in Naples and it's obvious that YL are the way to go!
So........I'm considering moving to Rome or Barcelona.
Where is the best?
I'm living in Plaza Garibaldi it's frenetic, dirty and crowded;just like Rio de Janeiro only not as dirty. |

With any language school job in Italy or Spain, the problem is simply making enough money to survive the euro-induced high cost of living. Do-able, if you can get some high-paying private gigs. |

Rome, without a doubt. Barcelona's in Spain... at least for the time being. |

You must mean the rubbish, the criminality, the complete lack of respect for everything and everyone, the out of control drug problem, the corruption, bribery, murder, the awful State schools, the private schools that are in reality nothing of the sort and pay peanuts......
Did I miss anything? (Been in Napoli for 7 years) |
