At 11:50 my final class for the year finished. Next week we have PYP exams, the week after proctoring for the "real" courses, then a week of chair-warming followed by my final exit. I asked a student to take a photo of me pretending to teach my final KSA class, but actually the experience was a bit of an anticlimax.
How close to summer vacations are you? |

I have a situation similar to you, but that's half the story for me. I still have another 4-5 weeks of classes at another institution to go...*sigh* although one student theorised that when they finish in 2-3 weeks, the rest of the time will be spent doing nothing...which will be somewhat frustrating if that's true... |

Nothing wrong with that. University students throughout KSA will soon be completing final exams in their academic courses, so you can't blame them for wanting some downtime in a few weeks. Seriously, English isn't their only class. Plus, Ramadan will start in about a month. |

Now you know very well who I'm talking about NS!
We are not talking about 'academics', but ESL students. |

No, I don't know what you're talking about. PYP students generally have other courses and not just an English language class each day. For example, my students were taking physics, chemistry, statistics, and calculus in addition to EFL. But apparently that wasn't the case where you taught. |

Do KSU and PNU count?
Are we stressed today? It's very early to get stressed! |

Yep, mine do too. Academic, Communication and Computer skills (separate classes) and Maths. And they ALL moan about having to do work for those classes in English class. If they're not prepared to do the work, then they shouldn't be at university. Simple. |

Yes, all the students at the universities have the same schedule as the next one and they all insisted in doing their relevant subjects revision in the English classes!
The poor darlings were truly stressed out by 'too much sleeping, socialising either on the social networks or attending various weddings!
Only a handful of students were studious, rest..... |

Hit it on the head there.
I have to admit, as frustrating as it is to hear such excuses, I personally don't mind releasing them early, especially if there's only a handful of students present. Reduces the contact hours at least which is always a bonus... |

What do you expect from 18 and 19 year olds trying to adjust to their first year at university? Frankly, given the (adult) expats' whining and stereotyping that seems to be a regular feature on this forum... |

No, sorry, I don't buy that. What's so stressful about bringing a PEN to class? It's pathetic I tell you. And not all the 1st years are 18-19, I was teaching people up to the age of 45 and they still kept up the amazing excuses for even failing to bring a DIGITAL coursebook... |

Afraid not NS! Either you had fantastic students or you haven't taught them lately! Not being sarcastic.
No-one is whingeing (adults) or saying anything, not heard or said before, so please stop telling us off! |

Not hardly---that's your perception.
It's just unfortunate that this forum continues to be a platform for put downs and labeling groups of people. Lest we forget the Cafe has a very diverse pool of readers. |
