Air conditioning....I really miss air conditioning.
But in the general scheme of things I'd rather have no air conditioning than endure a 6 month Canadian winter.
So I'm not complaining |
One school I taught at in Puerto Rico ran the air-conditioning so cold that I had to wear a couple of sweaters to class and my glasses fogged over (and stayed that way for a good ten minutes) whenever I stepped out of the classroom. Having survived many frigid North American winters myself, I didn't really see the need to artificially reproduce those conditions INDOORS in a country whose Department of Tourism's main selling point was the naturally warm and sunny climate. |

At my current school, classroom computers that are in deep freeze mode (whatever the heck that means) when I show up for my 8 o'clock class every morning. Seriously, how are we supposed to get on board with using technology in the classroom when IT has remotely locked everything down, thus preventing access? It's not like the good old days teaching overseas when proficiency in educational technology meant being able to project one's voice over the sound of the gas-powered generator in the adjacent room when the electricity went out every evening . . . but I digress. |

And admin place the blame on you when this happens? |

I understand completely I teach secondary and have my own classroom, and they still won't let me customize it, at all. And all the computers in the school have the same login password (which the students know). |

i once shared an office with a guy who liked to hum and sing along to his really loud, really crappy music. all the bloody time.
i asked him nicely a few times to turn down his music - which he did - but then his humming was even louder. |

Actually, our departmental secretary does a really good job of raising h--- with IT when these things happen. |

Interestingly, a few of my colleagues have opted to go back to the old overhead projectors still sitting in the corners of many of our classrooms as it's more efficient than trying to work with unreliable computer equipment. In fact, I've considered going that route myself on more than one occasion . . . |
