So far, for the job hunt one should have with them...
Apostilled Diploma or official transcript (Original or notarized copy?)
Passport
Birth Certificate (Copy or original?)
Resume
Anything else? |

This is what I brought. Remember its better to bring too many than two little...
Birth certificate
all diplomas and certifications (above HS)
marriage certificate and divorce papers (if applicable)
anything regarding change of name (changed my twice)
My boss said nothing about the last two and at the last moment I decided to bring them anyway (but I didnt have them apostilled, wont hurt to do it if you can). Thank goodness I did or I couldnt prove the diplomas belong to me! |

I would suggest bringing the originals, but have your apostille (legalization) done on a copy - no sense in defacing your original diploma.
The other things you will need for the FM3 you can get down there (photos etc.) probably for less $. |

Could a teaching certificate be used instead of a diploma? |

I have had an FM-3 since 1995, and I have never been asked for a copy of my birth certificate. What you need is the sealed diploma or sealed official transcripts, your passport, your tourist visa, a letter requesting a change of status from tourist to "visitante", proof of where you live in Mexico, and a letter from your prospective employer--as well as photos which your prospective employer will describe for you. A teaching certificate should also be sealed in the country of origin--it can serve in place of a diploma depending on the qualifications for the job you are offered. |

I suspect that the requirements vary from one office to another...
I know that I had to bring:
- original degree and certificate,
- legalized copies of the above,
- original birth certificate (long form listing parents) |
