When I was negotiating the contract, the uni said it is single entry and refused multiple. It is on the west coast.
Why do they refuse multiples? |

The reason is moot; it's simply their policy. |

To answer the OP's question, moot point or not, I think they believe it is a deterrent to employees doing what is called a "runner" which is quitting one's job without notice and leaving the country for good without a final exit visa. However, that hasn't stopped people from getting a single and then vanishing, though it does ruin the spontaneity of it. |

The Airline in Jeddah used to have the same policy. Only flight crew were permitted multiples. That was one reason why I was so pleased to move to KFUPM who were happy to give teachers multiple exit visas. I gave up all the flight privileges that we had with the airline for that ! And gained decent vacations instead of the 30 days a year that the airline gave us. |

Is there any technical reason why a company can't issue multiple visas, as opposed to won't? As I see it, it's just your company showing you who's boss, or some ****wit higher-up who's always done it that way, and is closed to the idea that expats are less likely to do a runner if they know they can spend a weekend outside of Saudi, at any time. |

1903-2003 Centenary celebrations in KSA
"100 Years of Progress without Change"
Smart PR man who came up with that one ! Many managers are resistant to change and LIKE having control of the LITTLE things. That is easier than having control of important things - like how we teach. |

The reason they should offer it is to make the job more attractive.
If I was an employer there and ASSUMING - a major assumption- I wanted to hire the best teachers, I would recognize that westerners need to get out of that place. |

You can't always get what you want. If I were a Saudi employer, I'd expect that those saying yes to the offer will manage their life/work in Saudi Arabia just fine without needing to hightail it out of the country every or so weekend. That said, if having a multiple exit/reentry visa is at the top of your list, then only apply to those employers that offer them. Otherwise, plan less frequent trips and use single exit/reentry visas, especially if your primary goal is to save money. |

All together now,
"If I were a Saudi employer,
And thank the lord I'm not sir!"
Several years involved in employment of teachers for Korea showed me the more we offered "potential teachers" the more unhappy and nit-picky they seemed to be. Offer what you want to pay, get the class of teachers who will accept it, and be happy...
... I say with a chuckle, leaving behind an even more understaffed ELC than ever.

I work with a few guys whose wives and children live and work in neighbouring Gulf states. People have different reasons for requiring these multi exit/reentry visas. In fact, some people require them to manage their life/work in (and out of) Saudi Arabia. |

re the OP:
there is no "why"
its an arbitrary control measure applied arbitrarily for no reasonable purpose other than they can do it
free your mind of those "why" questions, decide if the money ONLY is worth it, and if not, don't accept the offer |

Attempts to work out how decisions are made within KSA are doomed to failure. That applies to decisions at any level - about anything.
