I don't know what job ads you looked at, but the postings I found had a lot of info about what's required for a technical instructor at SESP, such as:
| Quote: |
Experience
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the maintenance of electrical equipment for either steam, gas or combine cycle turbine plants including the balance of plant equipment. A combination of work experience and similar experience in a teaching/training environment relevant to the specialization may be considered.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in teaching/training power plant electrical maintenance. A combination of experience in this specialization and other engineering disciplines may be considered. |
The position obviously entails more than just teaching students how to inflate a tire. |

Technical instructors generally teach operations, process, instrumentation, HVAC, electrical and mechanical. Usually they have some background in what is broadly called 'engineering.' Can also cover HSE.
Nothing to do with EFL/ESOL. |
