Hi All!
I have been offered a job in China (USA citizen) and was told I must have a medical exam done (Physical, EKG, blood tests ect) to submit to get the paperwork for the z visa. Are we required to submit any proof of the EKG and blood test? I am considering just doing a walk-in clinic for the physical and skipping the other exams due to high costs. Would the embassy be looking for copies of results for these tests when I apply for the z-visa?
Thank You,
H C |

All the tests come together in the form your Dr signs. He/she isn't going to sign for stuff that either hasn't been tested by him/her or a radiographer, blood lab etc.
Be guided by the form and how little the signing Dr is prepared to accept.
If he/she is your long-term family Dr or similar, there will be a lot of stuff that is on your file.
Some of the terminology in the form is a bit head scratching and my Dr just puts 'normal' in these slots.
You will repeat some tests when you get to China, so take X-ray films with you as clinic will likely accept these.
Make all your in-China medical costs are paid by school.

According to my experiences, NS nailed it.
You must have every test performed (or at least, the doctor must sign off on test results, whether he thinks they are necessary or not). As NS said, a short positive answer will get you the visa.
Once you get to China, you are at the mercy of the numpties who perform the urine tests, blood tests, chest examinations, etc.. If they can't work the WWI era equipment or interpret the state-of -the-art equipment results, you may have to undergo the tests several times.
My first school was in a veritable outpost of progress. The X-ray technician threw a film of a child who must have been run over by a cement truck onto the light panel. The doctors were certain that I was in mortal danger. The woman carrying a bag of ducks who (for some odd reason was allowed to follow me through the entire exam procedure) pointed out that the X-ray couldn't have been mine. The chest was too small. Duh...
Get it done completely at home. If it's not complete, what you send to the consulate may be rejected.
Another thing: what if you have a condition that you don't know about? If you skip that portion of the test and it's discovered in China, you may have to pay for another ticket home. |

Another point which I have made recently is newbes trying to work their way through the job process by quizzing these forums.
Do the usual stuff with the schools you are talking to and follow the Z-visa instructions on the Chinese Embassy websites.
This will get 90 percent of the task done.
Post here for verification. |

I was told I didn't need the EKG or expensive stuff done and just basically did a physical with a doctor in the US, but every agency is different here. There's not really a uniform immigration policy. |

This is the form my Dr filled out for me.
http://www.lawschoolchina.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/FOREIGNER-PHYSICAL-EXAMINATION-FORM1.pdf
As he knows me well a lot of things he was confident about and just stated 'normal'
I hadn't had a recent chest X-ray so that was done.
I think some posters have been at cross purposes.
Even though the form doesn't ask for actual tests it may be that your Dr will require them in order to sign off.
So to labour the test aspect is missing the point. The tests are there to support a decision by your Dr - not just a tick the box exercise.
Also my Dr plastered the form with his personal stamp which has his registration number as well as the larger group practice stamp. |
