There is no information on procedures for resigning from my position other than either party can terminate the contract without notice within the first 90 days. It also states that a 30 day notice must be given by either party if the contract is not going to be renewed.
If there is no information in my contract, where do I turn to for default procedures in the event I want out?

Employment contracts typically cover terms and conditions but not procedures. You can ask your HR rep since the process can vary with employer, but generally, if you're still within your 90-day probationary period, giving notice likely entails informing your supervisor and HR rep by email that you resign your position effective X date. (You may have to wait for your passport to be returned to you if your iqama is still being processed.) However, if your probationary period has paased, your notice of resignation needs to indicate your final day of work, which should fall 30 calendar days from the date of notice. Either way, you'll need to follow up with HR.
Per the Saudi Labor Law:

If the worker is subject to a probation period, the same shall be expressly stated and clearly indicated in the work contract. Such probation period shall not exceed ninety days, exclusive of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha holidays and sick leaves. Each party shall have the right to terminate the contract during this period, unless the contract embodies a clause giving the right to terminate the contract to only one of them.
Article (54):
A worker may not be placed on probation more than once by the same employer. As an exception to this, the worker may, with the approval of the contract parties, be subjected to another probation period of not more than ninety days on the condition that this period involves another profession or work. If the contract is terminated during the probation period, neither party shall be entitled to compensation nor shall the worker be entitled to an end-of-service award.
Article (74):
A work contract shall terminate in the following cases:
(1) If both parties agree to terminate it, provided that the worker's consent be in writing.

Yes, if I can't find something else, that is what I will have to do since I have expenses for 2016/17 already lined up.

I'm not really sure if I can blame the students 100%. I'm in an environment that is designed to psychologically break them through exhaustion. Something I'm not really a philosophical fan of.
Now that I think of it... they really do suck. If I don't change jobs within the next 45 days, I'm going to list this year as "Special Education" on my CV.
There are other things too. Not only is everything expensive here (when you convert it to USD), but I have to spend a couple hundred dollars to go across a border, have some drinks, engage in the PRIVILEGE of saying 'Hi' to the opposite sex, and spend the night somewhere that doesn't have a built-in hooker. |

Don't count on changing jobs to another Saudi employer, especially if your contract is terminated. Plus, you'd still have to contend with KSA's societal constraints. If you feel your work situation and quality of life are greatly diminished, start seeking work... in a more suitable country. Seriously. |

Yeah, I get emails from China and S. Korea a lot, but the money just isn't there. Since I want to pay for grad school next year, I may just have to bite my lip and deal with misery for another 10 months.
I'm sort of meditating on what I want to do, and should be able to make up my mind in the next two weeks or so.
I wish I were certified in Maths or Physics, both of which I love. Then I'd be laughing all the way to the credit union! |
