We really want to move to one of the smaller cities in Shandong, preferably fairly close to Jiaonan. I am seeing a lot of job advertisements from an international high school (or maybe more than one) located in Weifang, but it doesn't say the school name. Presumably a recruiter. Just wondering if anyone knows which school it is and if it's any good to work there. Are they posting a lot of ads because people get tired of living in a tier 3 city or because the job is horrible? Or just a really big school or multiple schools?

We aren't moving until winter break at the earliest so recruiters won't give us the time of day and I don't want to lie about our timeline and alienate them in the future.

We would love to move to Rizhao but there don't seem to be any international high schools there and still a bit unsure about working at a uni or vocational school.

I went to Weifang on holiday to visit a friend working there. It's one of the worst places I have been to in China. Complete s***hole. The only good thing is that it's an hour by train from Qingdao.

What was so bad about it? I mean I know it's a smaller city but was it really polluted or what? I lived in Shandong for a while and have been to some of the smaller cities there so I have a general idea but have not been to Weifang.

It's really polluted, and smelly. The main industry is the military and the people are really suspicious of foreigners. There is nothing to do for fun except visit the kite museum. My friend says the student level at his school is really low.

On the bright side, their local government is very reasonable about expert certificates and residence permits. I guess they have to be.

I visited there for a few days. It's a solidly mediocre city. It's not terrible, but it's not great.

I lived in Weifang for a while in 2010. I don't remember there being any international schools there at that time.

I'm not sure how the city has changed in the last few years but I can't recall a single polluted day while in Weifang. I traveled weekly to Tai'an, Jinan and Zibo and the air quality in those cities was always disgusting. Weifang was clean (for China) and fairly green with a park along both banks of the downtown river.
