You can't lose your citizenship, but you can lose your residency.
https://www.gov.uk/tax-foreign-income/residence
https://www.gov.uk/tax-foreign-income/paying-tax
It's all quite complex.
| Quote: |
Whether you’re UK resident usually depends on how many days you spend in the UK in the tax year (6 April to 5 April the following year).
You’re automatically resident if either:
you spent 183 or more days in the UK in the tax year
your only home was in the UK - you must have owned, rented or lived in it for at least 91 days in total - and you spent at least 30 days there in the tax year
You’re automatically non-resident if either:
you spent less than 16 days in the UK (or 46 days if you haven’t been classed as UK resident for the 3 previous tax years)
you work abroad full-time (averaging at least 35 hours a week) and spent less than 91 days in the UK, of which less than 31 days were spent working
|
So, I would be classed as non-resident. Which means I can't renew my driver's license, open a bank account, pay home fees for study etc etc (like all the things I said in my original post).
And I don't want to be classed as non domicile because:
| Quote: |
You don’t pay UK tax on your foreign income or gains if both:
they’re less than £2,000 in the tax year
you don’t bring them into the UK, eg transfer them to a UK bank account
|
As I transfer my money back to the UK, I would have to pay tax on it. Why the heck should I?
Due to many circumstances, I don't see myself moving back to the UK so I'd rather be classed as non-resident and not pay my douche gvnt another penny.
Also, there is a chance that I could claim this tax back with self assessment, but I wouldn't trust the tax man as far as I could throw him. Why take an unnecessary risk or pay lawyer fees. |

| Is a Brit's citizenship suspended after a long time away from England? |

| Moving back to England is a minefield once you have been away for any period of time (I'm approaching 10 years). |

For the love of God! It's been more than 300 years since the Act of Union. When will people understand that England is just a part of the UK? It's called the The United Kingdom of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland??? Does it matter? Yes, it does. It matters a huge amount to those of us who come from those countries, basically any country outside of England who didn't choose the union. Why? Because for thousands of years we had our own monarchies, cultures, currencies and cultures that were very different from the English, who's own culture had been vastly watered down by those continental counties who had vanquished them, and with which we were very happy with. What happened?
Basically our rich, over privileged ruling classes thought they would become even richer and more privileged by joining up with the English. Some of them did, some of them disappeared as their lands and titles were stolen by the English overlords.
So, if you want to really understand the culture of Britain, or The UK or whatever you want to call it, understand that. |

My passport says I am from the UK and I am British. I ALWAYS say I am from England and I am English.
Just because a Tibetan holds a Chinese passport, it doesn't make them Chinese. |
