I'll give my answer later as not to create any bias from the beginning.

Please tell the rest of us about the best country you have visited and why it's the best.

It's not necessary to have worked there. It's enough to have simply been there.

I like a lot of countries, but one of my definite favorites is Croatia (for holidays). Very nice people, beautiful clean sea, not pretentious, and really amazing ancient sites to visit.

I would have to say a tie between Spain and Morroco. I loved the architecture in Barcelona, though the people are a bit standoffish, though they do like it if you attempt to speak even a little in Catalan. Spanish food is also good. Morroco was interesting to me in that it is the only culture that has ever seemed foreign to me and the people were wonderful, friendly. I also really enjoyed the food and even got a few recipes from people I met that I still make.

I've only been to 5 countries and for me Hong Kong is the best among them. Their culture is fascinating, food is great, tourist spots are awesome and it's indeed a shopping destination.

New Zealand -- Kiwi hospitality, spectacular scenery, Kiwi hospitality, 17:1 sheep to people ratio, Kiwi hospitality, best hamburgers in the world, Kiwi hospitality, Kiwi birds (very cool), Kiwi hospitality, Mt. Cook, Kiwi hospitality . . . If heaven were a place on earth . . .

In all fairness, since I never actually worked there (only visited for a month), I really experienced the best of the country and didn't encounter any of the warts that one inevitably finds when navigating a job search, opening a bank account, applying for residency permits, etc.

English teaching opportunities aside, and the OP did not specify that this thread had anything to do with our chosen profession; the best country ever and always will be the United States of America. Of course it is. Of course it is. Everyone knows that. Why even ask? Very Happy

I don't have a favorite country; I have a favorite city: Rome. Hands down, no comparison. A beautiful disaster, a sprawled out sumptuous picnic. Modern Italian culture, ancient Roman ruins, Baroque architecture, the cobble stoned streets of the Trastevere neighborhood, happy international people everywhere, wonderfully generous inhabitants (at least to me), and lots of affordable and cool off the track places haunted by the locals, not to mention you get a buffet meal with your beer at many of the bars. How great is that?
