| I am thinking of my options. I have not started my new contract renewed and some things changed like housing and I would like to try my lucking finding another job. Was wondering what happens if I just leave for the summer and look for other jobs. Does my current employer have to cancel my FEC and I assume they will cancel my visa. I am in shenzhen which is strict are you blacklisted what is the procedure other than paying the 1,000usd my contract says. |

How many schools and contracts have you broken/jumped/didn't finish? I remember reading one of your earlier posts and you seem to jump around quite a bit.
On a side note, have you considered returning home to work or try your luck somewhere else?
Just from reading your earlier posts, China may not be a good fit for you. |

In my experience, your best ally when breaking, is your new school.
To jump without another job lined up is the worst case scenario - that is if you are continuing in China. |

I got an entire month of salary garnished due to leaving a contract early. Worked out well for me, I ended up... very quickly... in a job that paid twice what I was making before. Nice.
Have no regrets about dumping my previous employer. They weren't good employers, had a number of very frustrating experiences with them. |

| I have left one since I was going to school and told them. The other one did not give me the 18 hours in my contract but rather 28 so I left there as well. I then worked at a university that agreed to pay roundrip airfare but later precluded this from this contract. So I had a problem with this....so moral of this story is I don't play with my money or time...also after I left all these places several complaints were filed...I always talk to a current teacher and after I arrive they tell me how much they hate the job. I think it has just been bad luck. This job gave me a visa for only 3 months so not much time to consider if I want it since it took them 1 month to find me a job so I worked at my job for 2 months. Some esl people have no lives. |

Hope you don't mind me asking, but do you live in the countryside or in a big city? Try the public school route, they're usually much better about honoring their contract (from my experiences), and they are not for profit. It's not their money they're spending so they won't try and nickel/dime you (usually), training schools on the other hand..
I am sorry to hear about your experiences with the bosses who think they're gods here. They're terrible at being bosses and will NEVER follow the contract. So if that is the case then don't feel bad about leaving. And you aren't going to be giving a penny out of your own pocket to the company, how can they even enforce that? |

| All my jobs have been in small areas. I came looking for the authentic experience but I find you have no protection there. Once they get you that was the hardest part and the contract doesn't matter. The foreign office will not help because they have no cllue what should be happening. I am finally in shenzhen working with a public school but I hate the salary. I thought I could make the difference up with with privates but the south is more racist than the north. Request are made for white teachers so it is easier for the. |

Have you been able to find some private students for lessons? If so for how much? |

Wait, they request you to be white? Surely, this is not looking for private jobs, just searching job boards. Try getting them on your own. I was down near Shenzhen at a time and found nothing, even for whitey. I was fairly green at the time though. |

| I heard there were many Africans here but have found none. I would much rather be in guangzhou for social reasons. As far as privates I had 5 extra classes but they flaked out for summer. Not sure what I will go back to and yes I look online for privates and they ask for pic and tell me they need white only. It is comeptetive down here if they have a choice between a white ukrain or russian they will take them over my american black self. Shenzhen is just not my scene techno music and little diversity. Money is the main motivator. I kept hearing privates are the way to go but many was I tired, I do get the random calls to teach a clsas but I would like realiable work. Getting a job is not an issue for me I have tons of offers issue is they are not all sincere or real and I have grown tired of trying to determine what is real. Also after my last job ignoring the contract I see no protection from the chinese. |
