Not really - more just a heads up, but it seems September 3~5 (thurs, fri and sat) will be public holidays and then Sunday 6th will be a work day due to the 70 year anniverary of the defeat of Japan in WWII. Will affect the private school guys and for the uni crowd it kind of makes for an odd first week back.

Quote:
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory in World War II, we will have V-Day Celebration holiday on 3 September, 2015. Please kindly note the following holiday announcement.
• V-Day Celebration holiday is from Sept 3 to Sept 5. Sept 3 is a national holiday .Sept 4 will be substituted by Sept 6. Sept 6 will be adjusted to working day accordingly

Is this because it is it is the 70-year anniversary?
I was teaching 10 years ago but don't remember it being celebrated as a 60th.

Yeah it's a new one, seemingly just a one off deal that was decided back in May this year after big Xi went to Russia for their 70 year anniversary of the defeat of the Nazis.

Probably right. Little Brother following Big Brother.
Though I think Russia (Putin) wanted a big patriotic show to divert attention from issues closer to home. MH17 being one.
