Good question, I'm curious about the same thing so I hope someone will reply with info.

When I was in both Korea and Thailand an International Driver's Licence was all I needed to get insurance and drive a car and a scooter. I got an Int'l Driver's Licence before I left Canada and it cost me $90.

Am I correct in assuming that Vietnam will accept an International Driver's Licence as well???

I got mine through the CAA in Kitchener. It doens't expire and it's valid (almost) everywhere. From what I remember it was around $90.
