I'm considering a move to the middle east and have visited Dubai on holiday and enjoyed it but looking on this forum made me look into Oman and it looks a really nice place to live. My main reason for moving abroad is to save money, I gather that salaries in Oman are lower than in the UAE. My question is then how much more money I would save in either Abu Dhabi or Dubai compared to Oman and does it outweigh the more natural beauty in Oman?

It all depends on your CV. What is your education and experience? To make the higher pay, you need a minimum of a related MA plus 2-3 years of related experience. Most of the Oman jobs take a BA+CELTA+2-3 years of related experience and have lower pay.

Although you never mentioned Saudi Arabia, it offers the best opportunity in the region for saving money. However, it's not everyone's cup of tea.

No Saudi doesn't sound much for me, I've visited Kuwait too but wouldn't fancy living there.

Given the job requirements VS mentioned above as well as your own qualifications, head to either the UAE or Oman forum for more info.

Depending on your qualifications and the job that you land, you can still save money in the UAE. It all depends on your lifestyle choices. There are some great wadis and natural places in the UAE and Oman is a lovely weekend option. It would most likely mean buying a car if you want to drive over into Oman or even get offroad in the UAE, and there goes the budget! Getting a rental car with Omani insurance can be tricky.

However, if you truly do want to save money, then you might not want to invest in a vehicle, either in the UAE or Oman. There is plenty of urban trekking to be had in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat. In the end, I believe that more money can be saved in the UAE overall.

It's pretty simple, UAE you won't get a teaching job unless you're licensed in your home country and have quite a few years of experience. On the other hand I was offered a job in Oman and I have lots of experience but no license. The pay difference between the countries reflect having a license.

Thanks for all of your help, I'm due to qualify as a primary school teacher this year so I know it's really early to start looking but I just want as much information as possible and can't help but research more and more.

Then take a look at Teach Away and Footprints for info on the type of teaching qualifications and experience expected at k-12 and international schools in the region, especially for the UAE. Additionally, International Schools Review has a teachers' forum, which is geared more for content teachers like yourself rather than this ESL-focused site.
