Basically the best university in the UAE, good accreditation, and never heard any complaints from those who work there. I understand it is a hard place to get into for employment.

I am always suspicious of a place that presents itself as "one of the oldest and most prestigious" private university in the UAE that few have ever heard of. LOL It has been mentioned about 5 times here in the last 20 years. It only became a university in 2000. Before that it was apparently a language school. It is only accredited by the UAE... which tends to involve greasing the right palms and says it is "audited" by some Australian organization and its credits are accepted in Oz. Apparently not elsewhere as it isn't mentioned... and if they were, it would certainly be bragged about.

It may be an OK employer, but if you look at the page for the language department, it lists a teacher who has become the director and under other faculty, it shows only the Indian administrative person. I suspect that they mainly hire adjuncts which is what their ads for other positions show. I would expect that its pay/benefit package is pretty low. It says no openings for English teaching at this moment.

Back in 2013, the remuneration package was between AED 168,000 - 192,000 per annum (14,000 to 16,000 AED monthly) and includes five weeks of paid leave per year. The University provided private medical, life and disability insurance, and air fare to staff.

It is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the UAE while many foreign universities are not accredited. I go through this all the time when dealing with employees from Pakistan and India. Really has nothing to do with "greasing palms" but more about where the universities are located. Most Western do not have issues, it is just the 3rd world countries and where corruption is rampant.

I have interviewed more PhD's from India who are obviously not real but paper PhD's. Thus why the Ministry is tough.

The other body that accredits it is the private but government recognized accreditation body in Australia, where the main campus is.

All of this is meaningless because it comes down to salary and working conditions. If you are paid appropriately and it isn't a hell hole, who cares. Make the money.

No, the pay is low. Real low. Around 13AED for a teacher all inclusive. So no accommodation allowance or accommodation provided.

Surely that is ridiculous.

Actually I would consider 16000 ($4300) with no accommodation to be way too low to be considered. That would be less than what I was getting in the mid 90s. Of course I had 5 years of related full time experience post MA with Arabic speakers at that time.

My point is I'm surprised they would pay so low for a university. I thought they'd pay equal to the govt backed places.

With the exception of AUS, all of the private universities in the UAE (and Kuwait and Oman for sure) pay less than the government universities... that has always been true.
