Synne,
Pheew! I thought for sure you too were going to lay in on me.
Thank you very much. Though, I posted that just after writing it, literally, just desperate for feed back. I really want to learn to write. This may not be the best place to look for help but it has made my day to read your post.
In fact, I feel my topic regarding cell phones is too down. Everybody knows the problem. When I walked around the mall the other day after writing it I saw only one or two people on phones. I looked around and found that for the most part people are good.
I want to write about something else. If I had a good solution to a problem than I should write about that but if I simply want to air the problem more than I think that is not good.
I am in the process of writing something else at the moment. Would you care to see it?
I want you to know I really appreciate your comments and I am a little surprised that you were the only person to comment. My mentor simply said, "too long", then went ballistic when I gave erroneous information, innocently. He helped me more than I first realized. Made me realize I never should have asked him. Like asking to play one on one with Shaq.
Just goes to show, takes a lot of people to make a world. |

Tonester,
I didn't mean any disrespect to you. I apologize.
I felt you were supporting Glen and I was surprised.
I would like to know why you refer to this forum as we? Are you speaking for every one?
FWIW, I didn't call you anything. I merely implied you were going along with Glen. And if you were not than you will admit that he is out of line?
I called him smug. He got angry. Why is that?
Paul,
Half-speaking in jest? Being mildly sarcastic? Is that double speak? Like uninteded contact with the ground in reference to a plane crash?
Are you a moderator? Is that in line with your position? Do you not feel you owe me an apology? Or do I have to assume that this forum is only as good as the powers that have been assigned to moderate it. Honestly!

Sweetsee,
Be careful. Angry posters tend to disappear. |

Sweetsee,
Since you desire an explanation, I'll give you one. In referring to others as "we" in this case I had meant people in this forum who have tried to help you. I cannot comment on Glenski because I hardly know him and I don't know his position so I cannot really go for or against him. As I said; my last quote was "Tell Paul! He has the powers" and that was simply in jest, not meant to hurt you so if it did I offer my apologies.
I don't speak for everyone, just trying to emphasise that people here do want to help but you just need to stop insulting people and calling people names because that is the perfect way to get yourself either closely scrutinised by Dave or banned by him.
As I have stated, I hold no contempt against you but I'm just telling you that you are out of line. As for Glenski, you can take his advice or ignore it- it is up to you. |

PH,
I imagine I would be zapped out of this site before you or what's his face would admit being wrong. Afterall, it would be like getting 86ed from a bar wouldn't it? It's private property isn't it?
I admit I am wrong. I have on more than several occasions been defensive.
I said someone was smug. That someone called me names that I took no offense to and now I will be banished, deservedly so.
Guest, I am not angry. I realize my seeking writing help has no place on this forum. Just that many seem to have profound writing powers and I thought perhaps I could get some help.
I want to thank Glen, Tonester, Migo and Synne for their help.

Sweetsee,
You have every right to ask for help. People here want to help you. Just don't call any of us here names or make cutting remarks and you'll be fine here. It's not a hard ask, is it?
Another request: Please stop editing your posts because it makes it hard to follow your dialogue. |

Tonester,
Fair enough. I hope you understand that I was surprised when you said what you did.
Here, my mentor jumps on me with a voracious attack and you who I don't know and hold in high regard jumps right in and backs him. It looked to me like you didn't know him and yet rushed to his side against me.
The whole thing is utterly ridiculice. I have not written a word of my article all morning because I am enjoying this.
You are allright, mate. You can admit you are wrong, even when we both know you did nothing. I am the same way.
What about my essay? Take a look? |

I would love to read your new paper, however, perhaps you should PM me it.
There are too many ppl here trying to voice their opinions by degrading others. Im not pointing any fingers, because in a sense, Im doing the same thing right now. I guess I just would just like to see a little more maturity from everyone here. Paul, you say you have brought this topic before the mods. I say leave it at that, dont kindle the flame.
My thanks to Tone and Paul though for your old (to me) sayings

Sure thing, Sweetsee! I'll help as I am a man of my word but if you ever make any cutting remarks to me or call me any names then I will never offer any assistance to you ever again. Do we have a deal? |

Glen,
With some exceptions, this entire forum is one big smugathon. |
Name calling gets you nowhere. I have been here for 6 years giving advice, and I have an excellent reputation for it. You come here in a few weeks and display childish, bipolar behavior that makes it extremely difficult to help you in your questions. I tried. I was the most patient of anyone here. You lost that on your own account
Quote: |
Look at yourself: Don't help sweetsee, don't listen to Capper, Moderator, moderator, help!!! Delete all this! |
That is not smug. Get a dictionary or thesaurus. That was a suggestion. And, as for the remarks about capper, you don't know an infinitesimal fraction of that matter, so don't try including it here. You lose again with your hysterics.
Quote: |
Smug? Is that the first time anyone called you that |
Nope, been called much worse, but the other 99% of the people find me quite reliable, logical, helpful, and patient.
Quote: |
because my mate called you that and doesn't even know this site. Never been on a forum. |
If that's so, then explain how your mate even knows me. Or is this someone you gave your side of the story to without showing your highly edited attempts to post "intellectual" questions (to use your own words)?
Quote: |
You and others like you sit in front of your monitors dispensing knowledge beyond reproach. |
Dispensing knowledge? Yes, indeed. And, doing quite well at that. I have turned down a request to be a moderator, and turned down a request on another site to be a co-designer. I have written FAQs and articles. I keep on file over 2 megabytes of information that I have either compiled or written, and it all goes out free to people who, like you, ask for it. Also, I handle a ton of personal email related to this line of work every month. I haunt half a dozen discussion forums and "dispense knowledge". You are in the extreme minority who see things the way you do. And, it's so interesting to see such a change in you considering how much you actually praised me and said I was so knowlegdeable in earlier posts just a few days ago.
Quote: |
Is there anything you know nothing about. Well, I would bet my last penny that if there were you wouldn't have the cojones to admit it. |
Pay up. I don't know a lot of things. I make it a point not to post about them to show my ignorance.
Yes it is. Your smugness.
Quote: |
I know a thing or two about a thing or two. (snip) I am here admitting I know nothing and wanting to learn. |
Which is it? You know something or you know nothing?
Quote: |
My little paper will be written and with no help from you. I don't even think you can help. |
Then why did you send me a private email and a public message requesting it? You yourself called me knowledgeable.
Quote: |
What you can do is sit there offensively satisfied with yourself and self-rightously complacent. |
Hey, from the very start, I asked you simple questions to determine if I could help. You wrote a few flippant remarks, and you said the deadline was July 29th. It was too soon for me, and the topic was too ill-defined, so I told you I couldn't help. Can't get more honest than that. Later, you changed that date. Honesty went out the window then. I refuse to help people who can't give straight answers. That's not self-righteous or complacent. That's practical.
Quote: |
Could you possibly admit that there are many things that you suck at. I'm guessing those things would include getting along with others, sports and making friends. |
Yes, there are many things I suck at. What they are is none of your business, and it has no business on this forum. You are wrong on 95% of most of your guesses, though. You would do better to stop the immature prattle.
Quote: |
Yes, going back to your post it is suddenly clear what you are. You told me to go back to my audience. I imagine that this is the only audience that you play to. I have never for on second considered this an audience. |
I'm sorry, but I need a translator to understand that one.
Quote: |
I came here with the hope of helping myself. |
Huh? You came here with the hopes of finding others to help you!
Quote: |
But you sit there with with illusions of grandeur as you type out what you consider to be prophecy. No one has ever been able to find any fault in your posting, |
You obviously haven't read enough of my posts. I make mistakes, just not nearly as many as you.
Prophecy is the foretelling of future events. I don't do that. I explain the present.
(By the way, the expression is "delusions of grandeur".)
Quote: |
at the same time, how often do you bring up something you know nothing about, oh, that's right, that isn't possible is it? |
Read above. It would be silly to bring up something that I know nothing about, unless I was the one asking for help on it.
Quote: |
P.S. Now that I think about it and you said it yourself, after I heaped praise on you more than once...did you ever respond by thanking me? No, you didn't. But then how could you? It is obviously not in your nature. |
I didn't want to appear smug. |

Hi Glen,
I know its not a new day yet but let us pretend it is.
May the road rise up to meet you and may the most you hope for be the least you receive. Enshalla.
Respectfully yours,
sweetsee
P.S. I am terribly sorry about all that business yesterday. Please accept
my sincere apologies. |

I didn't have the opportunity to write a piece for a school paper (there wasn't one), but I would have enjoyed doing so. I probably wouldn't write my first piece about EFL, because I wouldn't want to reinforce the stereotype that I exist only in that context. I might write a comparison about the way something is done in Japan and the US, an opinion piece on an international event, or something that would promote me as a whole person, rather than just an EFL teacher. I certainly wouldn't criticize Japan.
Sweetsee, please post the final draft of your article for us. |
