It's now reported that Zimbabwe is seeking a second American 'lion killer'.
Dr Jan Casimir Sieski from Pennsylvania killed a lion in April without a permit.

This could just be the tip of the iceberg....

"They're burning fire breaks. They're grading roads. They're pumping water," Stapelkamp said. "They're spending a lot of money in the management of lions and then someone just draws it across the railway lines having not paid a penny in its management and shoots it and runs away with its skin. It's unacceptable."

Zimbabwe's National Parks and Wildlife Authority said Saturday it has suspended the hunting of lions, leopards and elephants outside of Hwange National Park, and that bow and arrow hunts have also been suspended unless they are approved by the authority's director.

The authority also said it is investigating the killing of another lion in April that may have been illegal.

Darn, I lost that list of all the US citizens extradited to 3rd world countries. Very Happy

Fair enough. When's the last time, if ever, that a U.S. citizen by birth was extradited to a country with a left-wing authoritarian government?

Dear esl_prof,

Drat, lost that list, too, I'm afraid. But there's this:

"Cecil the lion’s killer may have trouble avoiding extradition, experts say"

Dear John,

I don't know. It all sounds pretty speculative to me. I don't have high hopes that extradition will actually happen. But, hopefully, I'm wrong about that.

In the meantime, I'm saving a copy of your article to use the next time I have to teach real and unreal conditionals. If I had had a copy when subbing for a colleague two weeks ago, I could have illustrated the concept perfectly.

Regards,

ESL Prof

I wonder if this one will last as long as Kony 2012 or Bring Back Our Girls?

I guess I could make T-shirts, but I'm probably too late on this story. Oh well, I can get the next slactivist story and try to make bank.

When are we going to extradite all the people actually killing people? Bombing people is not as important as shooting a lion I guess.

Are you suggesting that Tony Blair and others be extradited to the Islamic State in Syria and the Levant ?

Parachute TB into the disaster zone he helped create? I can't think of a better punishment.

Well he was appointed "Peace Envoy in the Middle East". Mind you I never quite understood who made that appointment. Was it perhaps GOD ? More likely the Other One.

Update: Palmer is out of hiding and plans to return to his dental practice.

Quote:
"If I had known this lion had a name and was important to the country or a study obviously I wouldn't have taken it," Palmer said. "Nobody in our hunting party knew before or after the name of this lion."

Cecil was a fixture in the vast Hwange National Park and had been fitted with a GPS collar as part of Oxford University lion research. Palmer said he shot the big cat with the black mane using an arrow from his compound bow outside the park's borders but it didn't die immediately. He disputed conservationist accounts that the wounded lion wandered for 40 hours and was finished off with a gun, saying it was tracked down the next day and killed with an arrow.
