Met an American here in Thailand considering The Kingdom for financial reasons. 36 years old. Single. Only a 4 year degree, no other credentials. Is it worth the effort to look?

She needs Teacher Certification in TESoL. Most employers want a minimum of 2 years experience.

Without teaching experience in Asia it would be difficult to land any job in Saudi Arabia. You should get at least one year's experience in SE Asia first before trying the KSA. Also if you can afford it, a TEFL or a CELTA would be a good idea.

Needs a cert (preferably an in-person one) for legal reasons. Most employers probably wouldn't look twice at her resume however unless they were REALLY hurting.

Plenty of places in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket where you can do a CELTA/TESOL. It will cost about $1600. I would tell your friend to do that first.

She should take a look at current job ads for KSA to get a sense of what's generally required. But as others have mentioned, she'll need to invest some time and money into bumping up her qualifications if she expects her CV to make the cut. That means getting a valid TEFL cert (preferably a CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, or SIT TESOL) and a couple of years of full-time teaching experience gained after completing TEFL training.

Anyway, she'll have to decide if living and working in ultra-conservative KSA is financially worth the investment and personally doable.
