The question is: was he a teacher or a patient when he died? |

Erm, you're not allowed to have sex unless you're married. Most places do NOT put ESL teachers in a compound, you'll have an apartment and have to live by Saudi 'laws'. All the stuff you mention only happens in a compound - hardly anyone gets one of those.
There is NO FUN in the KSA.
Tony? You never broken a law before! Cannabis is illegal in the UK, but millions of people do it every weekend. How on earth is anyone going to know what is going on in your bedroom?
Regarding compounds it all depends on the employer. You seem to be quite an expert considering you have presumably never been there. I would say that the norm is probably in some kind of teachers' apartments where you do have an element of privacy. But the better employers will definitely put you in a compound or give you the cash towards it.
You seem to think that even if you're not living in a compound you can never visit those that do. I'm guessing that wherever you live in the world you do go out at the weekends sometimes. KSA is exactly the same. You have friends and they all live in different places. Some in compounds and some in apartments. People doing all kinds of different jobs and living in all kinds of places. I think what it comes down to is getting to know people and getting out. My wife has ab absolutely huge group of friends form her country and our weekends are packed with invitations to different events.
It's called having a social life. |

It's possible to get laid in Saudi. Our compound was mixed sex. As far as I know, mixed sex compounds are permitted. So if a single man meets a single woman and they are attracted to one another, clearly they will have "illegal" sex and it's extremely unlikely that any ill consequences will occur. You'll probably next say "single women don't go to Saudi", but they do.
I don't know whether "hardly anyone gets a compound" is true or not, but it sounds like a fishy claim; I had two Saudi jobs (compounds for each).
As for drinking, alcohol is an extremely simple substance to make oneself. Some people even use more advanced distilling processes. |

Not quite. I'm aware of one unmarried teacher who was immediately deported when her employer found out she was pregnant.
Nuff said. |

Dear tony87,

Man, if you're actually IN Saudi (which seems highly unlikely) you are most definitely running with the wrong crowd - or maybe not running at all.
Regards,
John |

Dear 2buckets,
Wall, you cou;d have bought one of those alarm clock/radios in the souk, the ones that use the call to prayer as the alarm.
That way you needed have missed out on an enriching cultural experience.

Yikes. Let's be honest, though, an unmarried woman getting pregnant in Saudi is highly irresponsible and stupid (of both parties). If one can avoid pregnancy, though, let's face it - it's highly unlikely that unmarried sex on an expat compound is going to get punished. Still, one must be careful. It could certainly get one fired if someone snitches to the boss. I'm actually very surprised that mixed-sex compounds are permitted in the Kingdom. I would've thought they'd ban them. |

But unless you're living in a compound...good luck having a physical relationship with a member of the opposite sex. Good luck having a few beers with your mates. No, the average teacher lives in an apartment (not a compound) where they have to abide by retarded Saudi rules.

Preemptive ridicule of the truth. Tell me, what 18-30 year old single women go to Saudi Arabia? None, zero, nada. The overwhelming majority of all women are only there because their husbands were posted there for some job, and the remainder are old and washed out. |

How about several hundred thousand (mainly) Indonesian and Filipina housemaids? |
