I'm actually in pursuit of giving this a shot (and in desperation mode somewhat) and have run across a few platforms. I know there is VIPKID but does anyone of other platforms? OkPanda I hear pays $3/30 minute lesson. Much thanks for any info.

This topic has been covered on the general discussion forum. Try "Most complete on-line school list in universe" (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=102710), which is quite extensive.

Yikes! Shocked
I'm curious to how many qualified NES there are on that platform?

I just applied to 51Talk (they wouldn't even bother putting their own school's name on Craigslist as I just found their name through Skype).

I googled their pay and found out on a Filipino forum that the pay is around $1.75 per 25 minute lesson?

Yet they advertise $800-$2500. So I asked if the salary for NES is the same as Filipino's. I'm guessing I was put on ignore. Wink

Off topic for China, but sort of annoys me that Dave's ESL has not opened a forum for Online. Best is to choose the countries that you want to work for, meaning those that provide the best pay.

In Asia, really Japan is the best by far. Biggest issue is that they age discriminate big time so hard jobs to get online if you are over 30-35.

The same could be said for South Korea. They of course pay somewhat less and now you have to deal with South Korean management.

I can't think of one other Asian company in China etc that I would want to work for. The point of the Internet is that you have choice too, so leverage it to your advantage.

European companies can be pretty good. The best way to find them is to google search for the online schools that don't advertise for positions and apply directly.

Russian companies can pay pretty well, but the country has been in turmoil with schools closing suddenly etc...

My current Middle Eastern school pays well and you will probably see more pop up to meet demand.

American online schools pay subpar in my opinion, and the ones in South America are about as bad as the Chinese ones.

If I were in China looking to make extra money, I would certainly look at doing privates than working for an online Chinese school in almost every circumstance.

PS. Desperation is always a bad state of mind to approach for getting anything. Like my twenty five year old male students while I was at Web proudly announcing in a packed salon class that they were looking for their first girlfriend. Turned off all the mei nu ASAP, save if it was one whose parents insisted she get married in the next couple months.

It is not very well covered on this site. Here is a better resource but once you are done with it then its best to just ask questions of those who seem to be working online (to some extent.)

http://www.goodairlanguage.com/teaching-english-online-2/

I had the interview with VIPKID but didn't get picked. I asked the chinese lady acting like a 5 year old to dance like a monkey after I did and she didn't want to. But in real life a 5 year old kid would love to. Oh well, she's the boss, remember that, your less. But best wishes on your interview, you may get it.

1. First think what time zone can you capture then go after those employers.
2. Do you speak Russian / Spanish / Portuguese / French? Some pay more for these skills as you would be a bilingual teacher.
3. I personally think they are a little more legit if they at least do an interview with you. I got on one site after spending a long time applying only to feel like paid staff were requesting to do my 3 free lessons with them. It seemed more like a marketing scheme and not a real school (SkimaTalk).

English First is out of Shanghai and I think they pay $10 an hour + 2$-3$ for bilinguals. I guess sometimes language learning pays off.

I made 56 cents in my first two weeks at Enkulu. Give them, and anyone else, who pulls on your chain a big miss. I, too, was denied at VIP, but I got a bad feeling about them. Maybe it's my age (52), but they should state that upfront. They are really full of themselves. These demo lessons are BS. Also, you will be dealing with the the Chinese internet firewall. IOW, I can connect three times faster to Yangoon, with the same ISP. My mouse wasn't working correctly on their system, and I know damn well it was at their end. I live in Thailand, so the hours were attractive. I still don't have proof it is all legit.
