Other pertinent questions for the OP would be what country/ies he/she is considering studying in, whether he/she is planning to do a distance course or not, and where he/she hopes to teach in the future (country and context).

Already asked and answered (sort of). Smile

For the OP....

BEFORE you go investing in post-grad qualifications perhaps some reflection and introspection might be in order.

What do you want to do when you are finished?

If you are looking at mainstream teaching then a PGCE (Post Grad Certificate in Education) or its US equivalent might be in order. They usually take about a year and usually lead to licensure in one or more jurisdictions.

If you are looking at commercial EFL/ESL then a CELTA/DELTA might be in your future. This will typically lead to Director of studies types of admin positions.

If you are looking at working in the tertiary sector (uni lecturer) then the MATESOL / M.ED TEFL might be in your future. If you want to rise above "guest lecturer" types of positions then a PhD might be looming on the horizon as well.

Of the 3, working mainstream in the international school circuit typically pays the best but is also the most work.

The private sector can pay well (especially if you own a piece of the pie).

Working in the tertiary sector usually pays the worst of the 3 but also has the lowest work loads. Your extra money comes from the guest speaker circuit after you have made a name for yourself.

OP: Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas does not take the GRE, but it does require a 2.5 GPA just to apply, and a 3.0 to be fully admitted to the teacher's college.

I was admitted with a 2.94 GPA, but I was automatically on academic probation.

It's a popular program within Kansas. Many public school teachers take classes from there.
