Hey guys, I'm a qualified CELTA teacher with experience in Europe and the UK teaching for about two years. I'm going to Australia on a WHV soon, looking for jobs in Brisbane to support myself there for a few months. What's the market like both for free lance and casual work?

It's quite robust at the moment.

The university sector is very dominated by Chinese and Indian (EAP) nationalities, so if you want to go that route be prepared for some near-single nationality classes. There is likely to be less interest in you as a short term contract in the uni sector than in private schools.

The private side is much more diverse and things are booming in Brisbane. Check out Lexis (if you're not wedded to Brisbane, they have schools on the Sunshine Coast and Byron Bay, too....pretty nice places to spend a summer), Langports or Browns as the better options for work.

WHV is fine for a few months, and schools are likely to be looking for short term contracts as the numbers increase for the summer.

Your salary will be determined by an Award, with a minimum of about $45/hour. You should teach 20-25 hours per week at most places.
