As of October 19th, the Saudi Embassy in London require DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks -- but these are not available to private individuals, and can only be requested by UK-based employers!
The only type of background checks that individuals can apply for are ACRO (required for immigration to certain other countries) and Basic Disclosure certificates, but I have no idea if either of these will be acceptable.
Thoughts? |

I just got through in early October when this wasn't required and a colleague mentioned that this was happening... I was skeptical. He also mentioned that you needed to supply three months of utility bills from a UK address... Maybe someone can confirm! |

The embassy themselves don't ask for this, but all background checks require at least 2 proofs of address, usually utility bills from within the last three months. |

This is the link to Police Scotland

Individuals can apply and the cost is £25. There are other levels of disclosure. Which one is required by the Embassy ?
Complications set in when applicants have lived and worked in jurisdictions outside the UKofGB&NI. |

Basic Disclosures --along with ACRO Police Certficates-- are the only kind individuals can request for themselves. Standard and Enhanced Disclosures (and DBS checks) can only be requested by UK-based employers.

Initially they said they wanted DBS checks, but as this is impossible I can only hope they'll revise their position... |

I am surprised that it has taken so long for KSA to introduce this. You need this "Disclosure" to do ANYTHING in the UK that brings you in contact with children, young people and vulnerable adults. |

I went through Disclosure Scotland for a contract in Vietnam and it only took about a week, so it's no real hassle. Like Scott, I'm surprised that the Saudis haven't cottoned on to this one before, especially if you consider their obsession with pieces of paper. I'm attempting to get to a Saudi university and so far it's been two verbal refs, three updated written references, my quals attested by the institute which authorised them, a letter of no objection and an evaluation form from my last Saudi employer, as well as a final exit visa form. It didn't use to be like this..... |
