Other Cities in Colombia

I already purchased a flight to Bogotá in April 2016, so I'm definitely heading to Colombia to teach English. But I wanted to ask about opportunities in other cities in Colombia.

I have heard that Medellín is a difficult market, and I do believe it. Medellín is small compared to Bogotá, and foreigners love it there. The weather is really nice, the women beautiful, and the cost of living lower than Bogotá.

I think that cities such as Barranquilla, Cartagena, and Cali would be too hot for me. And work in these cities would be hard to find as well. Not to mention my Spanish probably won't be quite up to par for these places by the time I arrive.

And it's not as if I feel I won't like Bogotá. From everything I've read, I think it's a great city. Coming from Pittsburgh, I doubt I will have the same complaints about the weather that others have. And there's little doubt that Bogotá has more jobs than any other location in Colombia.

I just want to keep an open mind and explore all of my options within the country. My research continues to lead me to stay in Bogotá once I land there. I would like to hear input from others though on this topic.

Thanks!

I wish I'd had more time while in Colombia to visit other cities. People certainly talked up places like Barranquilla and Cali.

I think that you have a good plan. Check out Bogota and see how you like it. Cali is hot, and there is not so much easily available work. I enjoyed my time in Cali but work-wise Bogota definitely has the edge.

Medellin would probably be my first preference, overall..
