other than that, the visa agency will still bring teachers in on the 'business' visa should the work visa route prove unworkable.

That is not a good idea. Right now there is a July 3rd deadline for non legal workers to leave the country if they can't somehow get amnesty. I don't think the amnesty applies to teachers. The anxiety among teachers on business visas is building.

I was hoping someone could help me, as I have a last minute complication. I've been looking

I majored in English. I applied for my job as an English major. But today when I got my Degree Verify thing it listed my major as "Interdisciplinary." Which I guess means English with a bit of creative writing. I went to a non-traditional, design-you-own-syllabus kind of hippie school so I assume that's what that's about. And now I'm worried that they'll make it difficult for not saying English, despite my transcript being dominated by English courses.

My question is: what determines what my major is? Is it the Degree Verify form? Or something else? How should I go about showing SACM that I'm an English major? Or by chance it is ok that it does't say English?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The SACM will see your transcripts. However, since your university has to provide an official, notarized letter verifying your major, attendance dates, degree conferral, etc., email your registrar directly to request he/she also indicate that your degree program focus is English. Ask that you be provided a photocopy of that letter as well (in case the original letter is in a separate, sealed envelope).

By the way, what's stated on your diploma as your major?

To give my own experience as someone who has just done this in the UK, and received my visa only this week, this is what happened to me.

When I went to the visa agent they were not in the slightest bit interested in my degree. I don't even think they wanted a copy of it. The degree is totally unrelated. As they said, the only thing they wanted for attestation was the TESOL certificate as that was the thing that was relevant to the job title that went with the visa.

That was how it was for me.

So to answer those who were asking, I can say that the degree does not have to be related, at least in my case anyway.

There was a scare a while back that Canadian teachers were required to have a relevant degree. Go figure.

Canadian restrictions are still in place. Several teachers were rejected at the embassy in Ottawa a few weeks ago for not having a related degree.

I spoke with degree verify and they changed it from 'Interdisciplinary' to 'Literature/Writing,' which is as close to my alma mater gets to an English degree. I'm mailing it today. Here's hoping SACM seems literature and writing as related to English....
