Probably a bad college in one of the worst regions in Saudi Arabia has standards when it comes to age. Prospective employers can't be more than 50 years old. Could it be that the teacher needs to be able to run fast enough in case all hell breaks loose? The college that is particular about age is also a little skimpy when it comes to salary. A NET may make as low as US 2000 a month. The word of the day is AVOID! |

Although no longer there (as of July), I must spring to the defense of Jubail. It is a nice town, with a decent selection of supermarkets, including Tamimi AND Lulu, lots of parks, beaches, wide streets, reasonably good hospital (free for RC employees), handy enough to Bahrain for those with alcohol and whoring addictions, and is a great place to bring up pre-adolescent kids. (Adolescents should not be subjected to anywhere in KSA, although segregated schools and limited boy-girl interactions makes parenting easier.)
I didn't work at JUC, and didn't hear particularly glowing praises from those who did, but as an RC employee I sure as anything made a lot more than $2000 a month. Later hires got less (than me), but if you don't like the offer, don't accept. It's not so difficult, is it?
And over 50s were hired, so maybe they just don't want certain oldies. |

I'm not defending JUC, but their current job ad prominently indicates the $2000-4000 USD salary range, so it's obvious to job seekers that the pay will be low/mediocre, especially for those with unrelated BAs and near-native English proficiency. As for age, it's unclear why the ads state 50 as the max --- it may have something to do with Saudization or higher health issues among those over 50. Who knows. Regardless, there are plenty of other employers in KSA looking to fill positions. |

It's probably just wishful thinking on their part, if they can get in some "youngsters" they won't have to deal with the RC's obscure and incredibly slow hiring department for the next 20 years.
At JIC none of the oldies (post 60s) have been forcibly retired in recent years, due to almost non-existent new hires. Last year the place was understaffed, and my sources report that this year is even worse.
The plan was clearly for the big boss (at the RC, not the college) to team up again with the satanic "canadian" and bring in MacGilligans, while the pair and their cohorts cream off millions of riyals from providing services like accommodation, etc.
As satan overstepped his mark and his excellency was left with egg on his face, this plan is now probably off the table, but in fairyland, anything is possible.
NB The lack of capitals for canadian & satan is not a typo, punishment is the only capital such a creature deserves. |

I have an upcoming interview for an ESL position at JTI. Does anyone have any information about the place? More importantly, if I do accept a job there, how long would it take to start work? |

JTI = the worst students in Jubail, lowest level and rowdiest/least disciplined.
According to an escapee from there, also the worst college in the RCJ system to be in, in the sense that you are worked to the bone to cover the ever increasing enrollment while the RC refuses to hire staff. Although if you get an offer you can accept, then they have hired at least one person. If you have a chance, better to apply to JIC, which also needs staff, although the RC doesn't seem to realize this.
As to time, unless the RC have improved in the past couple of months (unlikely) expect to start work months and months and months after your successful interview.
On the other hand, Jubail is a nice town, and improving (developing) all the time, so it could be worth the wait if you're not in a desperate hurry. |

From their web site it looks like you have to pay for your accommodation - or is that only for those who are there with families? Either way Jubail is a tough gig IMHO and the pay on offer is too low to even consider it. |

Per their current (new) website ad, housing is provided. However, the ad doesn't mention a salary range, so it's hard to say if it's too low for those with minimal qualifications:
Quote: |
Successful candidates with single or married status are offered very attractive employment packages including a highly competitive tax-free salary, settling-in and transport allowances, excellent and free-of-charge accommodation, health care and education for two dependent children. |

Do not accept less than SR12,000 monthly. More realistic would be SR15,000. Jubail is not great. |

That 15000 SAR is realistic for those with solid, more desirable qualifications. An unrelated BA, TEFL cert, and a few years of experience isn't likely to come close to that number. |

Remember that salary is tax-free and that you should get free housing and health cover. Ticketing in vacation. KSA can still be a cheap place to live. Good place for misers. |

Come on, what's with the Jubail bashing???? Maybe 10 years ago it was nothing special, but it's 10 x nicer than the horror that is Dammam, and everyone (nearly) there speaks (a kind of) English, so better for the non-Arabic speakers than Riyadh.
As for salaries, I don't think new hire foreign devils are getting anything like 15000 anymore. |

Comparing places to Riyadh is hardly fair. Riyadh is awful. NOWHERE in KSA, not even Buraidah and Qassim compare. I would sooner teach in Sharurah. |
