Hello all,
I'm currently teaching in China and am going to pursue getting the Trinity TESOL cert. However, in doing my research I'm trying to figure out if this degree would be of any help to me should I one day hope to go back to the U.S. From my brief research, I saw that you'd need to be certified in ESL, and may also have to be certified in Education, by each state that you want to live in. So from my research it doesn't seem like the Trinity TESOL would go far in terms of teaching at a public school or university.
The question is, what kind of work can you get with a good work history and the Trinity TESOL? |

That's correct. For work in a public school (K-12), you'll need state licensure/endorsement, which will require you to take the relevant university courses. You might want to check out alternative teacher certification programs like Teacher Ready. For work at universities, you'll need at least an MA in TESOL/App.Ling.

With a BA and a certificate, you could get work at a private language center. It will also depend on what you mean by a "good" work history. If it is a number of years of experience with learners that are similar to those at the center, you'll have a better shot at something full time. Otherwise, you might need to work part-time for a while to gain experience. |

| Alex, you have a BA in English and could certainly pursue licensure in English/language arts. It's teaching the type of English class we all took in middle and high school in the US. Just another teaching option for when you return to the States. |
