How long does it take to get permission to work once married?

My mother in law is sick and it might be beneficial to back in Poland working.

By being married ( I assume you have a polish marriage certificate) you are allowed to work, this is all you need. Some language schools will still hire you on an umowa o dzielo, just tell them that you are married and show them the cert. if they ask. Many language schools require that you open your own business though. I did this for years before deciding to re-open my business here. The residency card is a different issue, however, you still need to apply for this and wait for an eternity Smile

Was married in the USA.

It's not the best time to come over for finding work though.

It might have to wait till next fall.

Wife's mother is ill. Unlikely wife will say no - I guess the OP is thinking of making the move as supportive of his wife. Rolling Eyes

Not all Polish wives are stuck on living outside Poland, anyway - it's not always about the money, dragonpiwo. I know numerous Czech, Slovak, and Polish people who've returned from the US and UK for lifestyle reasons.

For many, family ties and kin are a great reason to come back or stay in The Homeland.

Mother in law is doing better.

My wife is not your typical Polish woman. She already lived in the USA and returned once to take care of her father before he passed.

She feels very guilty though for not being there.

The big issue is if she goes back before her green card is complete we will have to do the BS visa process all over again. That means possibly not seeing her for 6-9 months. There is a process that the Department of Homeland Insecurity has in place for travel papers before green card is complete, however, no one has responded as of yet.

Zielona Gora is not the best market for native speakers though.

Professionally, in Poland it does seem to be a lot better after you're married; I had the residency permit a couple of months after my wedding (in Poland); before the wedding, I had applied for the permit and my application was rejected. However, it's still only the 1 year run-of-the-mill type of residency permit and I'll have to go through the whole process again in a year if we're still here; also on a personal level, you get a lot more respect, considering how "family-values" oriented most Poles are; now if I could just persuade my wife to be a little "less Polish" from time to time... Very Happy

wojbrian, how long have u guys been married/in the USA? My wife and I were married in Poland in the fall of 2010, we moved to the USA January 2011 and my wife had a green card (and got citizenship this past summer). After reading what u wrote, it sounds like she still doesn't have the GC but is living in the USA? Everyone's situation is different I guess but....
