If Ukraine adopts Saakashvili's reforms. English teachers and investment will pour into UA just as it did with Georgia. No visa, no work permit. If other CIS countries would do they same they would reap the rewards.

"Relax immigration laws, with one year visa-free stays for 115 countries"

I happen to be in Georgia at the moment. It's not an EFL mecca by any means. And the economy's not exactly something to aspire to Shocked Rolling Eyes

This will drive down salaries for the teachers already there and the ones coming in. Also, there were enough wasteoids teaching in Ukraine when I got there 5 years ago during the current visa regime. How do you think going visa-free will be a benefit to anyone?

Give it time. The economy under Saakashvili has lots of western investment flowing into the country to develop it. When he left office so did the foreign aid from the west. Its only a matter of time before people will want a regime change again.

Do you really think teachers currently go to Georgia to make lots of $? How much of a drop would the salary be from $200 per month to $180? If Georgia doesn't require work/visa permits people don't have to hassle with doing border runs like in Ukraine, bribes and their stay is less stressful. Salaries will decrease over the years regardless of whether visas are required or not ie. Korea, Japan.

If your employer is decent (and these do exist in Ukraine, believe it or not), they will pay for and provide you with a legal work visa. People with a qualification shouldn't sell themselves short by working for AEC or an un-established school. If you follow this advice, there won't be a need to do visa runs or pay bribes at the border/airport.

I was making the equivalent of $1000-1500 a month in pre-war Ukraine, which I think is a very fair salary. Could I live on less? Yes, and most Ukrainians do. Quality of life would be affected though. And for the record, I wouldn't go anywhere to teach ESL for $300 a month, accommodation or no. They've got a real racket going in Georgia, IMO.

Spoiler Alert: Schofield is one of Yanukovych's cronies. How is he doing these days in Russia? Did you ever party at his former crib?

Spoiler Alert: You still didn't give a good reason as to why Ukraine should adopt the same visa regime as Georgia.

Have you ever been to Georgia? If so you'll see how the one year visa free policy has begun to develop their country. Tourism, business, commerce is arriving. BBC, CNN, mainstream travel magazines are discovering the land of wine, mountains, beaches, hospitality.

Do you really think this would be possible in a country such as Belarus with visa restrictions tighter than a monkey's hole?
