| Everything I did was in Hangzhou. So, based on an earlier post, I would guess that the company does something where it licenses everyone in Hangzhou and sends them out to work in various provinces. |
Are you working for the infamous "Hangzhou Helen" ?
That company goes by many names, Hangzhou Zhejiang University Helen China TEFL Network Co., Ltd (abbreviated as China TEFL Network or CTN). |
No, I'm working for Echo English. Hopefully this isn't another name they go by... |

| I'm not sure about the residence permit, but everything seems to be fine with it. This school is much better than the last one. The people here are much more accommodating than the last school. They have tried hard to make me feel welcome and helped me to get acquainted. It is out in the middle of nowhere, but I'm not too bothered by that. The other school just dropped me off at the apartment and left it up to me to find the school, a school I had never even seen before. I think things are going to be much better from here on out. I just feel bad for my two friends that are still stuck at that other school, but on the bright side one of them told me that the company is going to have them transferred to a new school in February because they are working illegally. I hope they find better schools as well. |

| Demand your passport back immediately and give them a deadline with a notice that you must protect yourself legally with a report to SAFEA and your Embassy. Next time, read this before finding yourself a new teaching job in China to avoid more dumb mistakes. http://www.esl-jobs-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=7010 |

Thank you for the link. I think I will stay at the school I am at now. They are super nice and helpful. I have had NO problems whatsoever. Also, the police came to the school to register me, which I think is a good sign. Everything seems to be working out now. If/when I decide to change companies or schools, I will use this information. Thank you! |
