Doesn't have to be fat, but it has to be.

I think you've got to have some of your own spirit to contribute to a place. It's not a one-way street! Not that I'm a fan of strip malls and block stores either, but no place is perfect.

The Sioux and the Navajo used to live in places that had "Spirit". Look what happened ! Sic transit Spiritus Mundi.

This is what I'm realizing and coming to terms with. The whole planet is more or less a dump these days, and it's on the fast track to fulfilling the movie (read: prophecy) of Idiocracy.

Nowhere to run. No way out.

I've found a pocket of "spirit" that could use a couple more good teachers. Google "Yap." Its different.

US$10k/year + housing. PM me if interested.

Maybe I should go back to the U.S. and become a 'progressive' so I can delude myself that we're living in a soon to be utopia.

Maybe a compromise is in order. How about a place with just a bit of spirit, OK money, fast internet and semi-OK health care?

I don't know anyone who thinks we live in a utopia. Most people just get on with it. A small percentage of brave souls do something different, e.g. TEFLing, in hopefully nice but non-utopian places.

The saddest people I've met work in offices (where I too was sad) and say stuff like, "Wow, Berlin! I'd like to go there for a weekend one day. Can you get cheddar cheese?" These bores are doomed to life at a desk eating cheese for lunch (at their desk). They too probably planned to find a place with spirit, new job, new wife, new cheese, etc, but never quite got round to it.

I've never quite got round to writing a Dilbert sequel, but it would wipe the floor with Scott Adams' lightweight version.
