DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Fire broke out Thursday in a residential building near Dubai’s massive New Year’s Eve fireworks display.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, which ran up at least 20 stories of the building near the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest skyscraper at 828 metres (905 yards).

Burning debris rained down from the building as firetrucks raced to the scene. It was not immediately clear if anyone was wounded in the blaze

I wonder how the firemen will tackle this fire, as it is 20 stories above them?
Maybe using a helicopter to tackle this fire?

Anybody in Dubai witnessing this fire?

Gregory,
As you probably know by now, the fire erupted around 9:30 p.m. at the Address Hotel near the Dubai Mall. Most recent reports indicate 16 were injured but not seriously, with no fatalities (no children harmed), except one patron who suffered a heart attack during evacuation.

Cause is still yet undetermined, and fireworks displays were not cancelled.

Vivid photos were released by The National. Hopefully, reports have been accurate regarding safe and successful evacuation of all staff and patrons.
