I am just glad I don't have to deal with all this visa stuff. I wonder why it got so difficult, it seems like 4 or 5 years ago it was pretty easy and straightforward.

All Mexico did was update their immigration policies to match those of other countries, such as the US and Canada. Perfectly reasonable change I think.

And it got a lot easier if you have a direct family member who is a citizen. I know several people who have benefited from the reform.

I think the thing that made getting my visa so stressful was the immigration office in my city. Everyone else I had to deal with was cool. But, the immigration office nearest me who I had to turn all the paperwork into made it all very difficult. I feel the process would have been a lot more laid back had immigration not argued with me every step of the way.

Immigration "argued" with you ? They are the guys who make the rules and enforce them ! There is an old US saying, "You can't fight City Hall."

They make the rules. It is up to you to do what they tell you !

Spoken like a true Brit! I've argued and won many times. Idiots are idiots wherever they are, and usually bigger idiots when they are given "authority".
